RWDir Preview and Installation:
-------------------------------
The installation process for RWDir is Easy and Safe! Following the
instructions below, you can set up RWDir, run it without overwriting
your current File Directories or Menus, look at the results and then
decide if you want to install RWDir permanatly (we think you will!).
When you decide to implement RWDir after viewing the results, its a
very simple two-step process to install it!
STEP 1:
-------
Create a DOS SubDirectory called \RWDIR. UnZip the contents of the
RWDIRxx.ZIP archive into this SubDirectory. Then CD\RWDIR !
STEP 2:
-------
Run the RWSETUP.EXE program. Select Option #1 [CONFIGURE]. You will
be prompted for Four (4) pieces of information;
1) AUTOCONFIGURE WHICH CONFERENCES ?
Type 9999 and Press Enter. This selects ALL Conferences.
2) BBS NAME ?
Enter up to 77 Characters representing your BBS's Name here. It
will automatically be centered for you, so dont enter any Leading
spaces.
3) LOCATION of CNAMES ?
If your CNAMES file is C:\PCB\MAIN\CNAMES (the Default) Simply
press ENTER. If your CNAMES is located elsewhere, type the
Complete Drive:\Path\Filename and press ENTER.
** RWDir does NOT write to your CNAMES File Ever! **
4) DIR HEADER PATH ?
This is the Drive:\Path\ where RWDir will use to store the DIR-
Headers. They are NOT added to the top of the actual Dir Files!
The Default Dir Header Path is the 'Current Directory' which
should be \RWDIR. You *can* specify another location if desired,
but the SubDirectory Must Already Exist-RWDir will NOT create it.
STEP 3:
-------
The program will display the information you entered and ask you if
you wish to proceed. Check your information for accuracy and if O.K,
enter Y. If something isnt quite right, answer N and re-enter it.
The program now automatically creates the RWDir Configuration files.
If a Conference has no File-Directories, or is the same as the MAIN-
BOARD Directories, no config file will be created. The status of each
conference is shown on the right side of the display.

RWDir Preview and Installation:
-------------------------------
STEP 3 (Continued from previous page)
--------------------------------------
When all CFG files have been created, you will be asked if you want
to have us automatically create the HEADS.BAT file for you. Reply Y
(Yes) to this prompt!
Next, you will be asked for any desired run-time Options: CHOOSE "T"
(for TESTING)! This will ensure that none of your File Menus will be
overwritten! RWDir will write its File Menus with the Extention: .NEW
and wont bother your Real Menus!
Done! with CONFIGURE OPTION! All necessary .CFG files have now been
created for you! (Can it get any easier?)
STEP 4:
-------
After Completion of STEP 3, you will be returned to the RWSetup Menu.
Now were ready to see what RWDir can do! Exit the Menu by selecting
OPTION X. You will be returned to DOS.
Execute the HEADS.BAT batch file by typing HEADS and press ENTER. You
will see RWDir process Directories one conference at a time. In short
order it will complete its task and you can then Look at its creation
STEP 5:
-------
RWDir created FILE MENU's, and FILE DIRECTORY HEADERS in STEP 4. To
View them, you need a program that honors PCBoard "@X" Color-Codes.
A good program for this is called ANSI-F available wherever fine
products are sold (Salt Air has it!).
The FILE MENU's are located in the same place(s) as your current
Menus (as defined in PCBSetup), WITH THE EXTENTION OF ".NEW". Type
the file to the Screen to view it.
The FILE HEADERS are located in the DOS SubDirectory you entered in
STEP 2 (\RWDIR ?) They will have the following Naming convention:
RWDxxxx.ddd {Where xxxx is the Conference Number and ddd the DIR #)
Type them to the screen also... You like? OK, maybe you dont like the
colors we've chosen as defaults. You can use the Colorizer from the
RWSETUP Menu to change them yourself and re-run the HEADS.BAT file...

Implementation:
---------------
So you like RWDir and want to place it into service? Easy! Two steps:
1) Load the HEADS.BAT file into your favorite Editor and remove all
the /T parameters which appear after each execution of RWDIR30.You
could just as easily Re-Run the CONFIGURE OPTION from RWSetup same
as before, just Don't Enter the "T" (for TESTING) when asked! A
new HEADS.BAT will be created for you without using the TEST parm.
2) Run the % OPTION (yes- percent sign) from the RWSetup Menu. What
this does is to go into your File Directories, strip off any old
Header that may be there, and insert the PCBoard %FileSpec pointer
into the Directory. ** Your OLD Directory File(s) will be Re-Named
to: DBKP####.ddd {where "####" is the Conf# and .ddd DIR #}
You're Done Installing RWDir! Now run HEADS.BAT again and Viola!
** The BEST place to run your HEADS.BAT is from a file named :
REFRESH.BAT which can be created (by you and your editor) in
your \PCB subdirectory. PCBFILER will automatically execute this
file if, while you were in the filer, Directories were changed.
Your REFRESH.BAT should simply run the HEADS.BAT file; like this:
REFRESH.BAT Example:
CD\RWDIR
HEADS
Better than running it in your event!
The Preceeding was a Simple 'Minimum bother' installation of RWDir
There are several ways you may enhance the appearence and contents
of the Menus and Headers! Menu's can contain Sysop Defined Text,
SubTotals and Unique Colors for any Conference... Be sure to READ
the Documentation !!
